Where is the Ventnor City Police Department?

The Police Department is located at 6201 Atlantic Avenue.

Can the police open my car if I have locked my keys inside?

Due to the risk of damage to the vehicle the Ventnor Police Department does not unlock vehicles. Contacting a locksmith is the best alternative in most cases.

If I just relocated to New Jersey, how soon do I need to get a New Jersey driver's license?

Any new resident with a valid license from another state must obtain a New Jersey license within 60 days.

Does the City of Ventnor require that my pets be licensed?

Yes, all dogs and cats within the City shall be licensed.  It shall be unlawful for the owner of any dog, regardless of age, to permit such dog to run at large at any time in the City of Ventnor.

Does the City of Ventnor allow dogs on the boardwalk and beaches?

Dogs are not allowed on the boardwalk, but, dogs are allowed on the beaches between October 1 and May 15 in the area of the beach washed daily by the high tide.

Should I report suspicious activity in my neighborhood?

The Ventnor Police Department depends on citizens to call and report crimes or suspicious activity. The dispatcher who takes your call will ask questions about the activity to determine its nature and ask for descriptions of the people involved. You can choose to remain anonymous, or give your name and number in case an officer needs further information.

I understand that Ventnor Police Department is often in need of School Crossing Guards. Who do I contact to become one?

Being a school crossing guard is rewarding, part-time work that makes a positive contribution to the safety of our children. Contact the Administrative Captain of Police at (609) 822-2101.

How do I get a copy of a police report?

The Ventnor Police Department provides copies of closed Police Reports and Motor Vehicle Accident Reports for incidents that occurred within the City of Ventnor and that the Department has investigated. The Ventnor Police Department provides these copies at a nominal fee per page.

How to obtain a case copy?

You may request one in person at the Records Bureau at the Police Department. 

You may request by phone at (609) 822-7968. The information needed will be collected over the phone. You will need to appear in person to receive the report.

Reports are generally furnished to you while you wait. More complicated cases can take longer.

The State of New Jersey and Ventnor Police Department Policy regulates who may receive copies of cases.  In some instances your copy may be edited to withhold certain information pending disposition of the case, or for other reasons.

How early in the morning can I start construction and/or use construction tools at my house?

Domestic power tools, lawn mowers or agricultural equipment are permitted when operated with a muffler between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm on weekdays and 9:00 am and 8:00 pm on weekends and legal holidays, provided that they produce less than 85 dBA at or within any real property line of a residential property.

When can I ride my bike on the boardwalk?

From July 1 to Labor Day, bicycles are permitted to operate from 6:00 am to 12:00 noon Saturday and Sunday, with daylight hours on Monday through Friday.

I am having trouble with my electricity or other public utility. Who do I call?

Electric

  • Please DO NOT call 9-1-1 or the police department to report a power outage. During power outages the 9-1-1 call enter is frequently inundated with calls from people reporting an outage or requesting the status of an outage. The police department cannot help you with this type of request. 
  • To report a power outage please contact Atlantic City Electric by calling 1-800-833-7476. Reports and status inquires can also be made online by visiting the Power Outage Map, or by downloading a free iOS or Android device app.

Natural Gas

  • If you suspect a gas leak or other problem with your service, contact the South Jersey Gas Company at 1-800-582-7060. If anyone feels ill or there is a fire, get to a safe location and call 9-1-1 immediately. 
  • Three Signs to Identify a Gas Leak
    • Look, Listen and Smell:
      • 1. Look for dirt blowing into the air, persistent bubbling in standing water or discolored/dead vegetation around the pipeline area.
      • 2. Listen for any unusual hissing or roaring sound.
      • 3. Smell an odor like rotten eggs.
  • What to do:
    • Evacuate from the area immediately.
    • DO NOT use anything that may cause a spark, including lighters, matches, cigarettes, telephones (including cellular), flashlights or any motorized equipment such as automatic garage door openers.
    • Do not attempt to operate pipeline valves.
  • After You Evacuate:
    • 1. Call 911, followed by the South Jersey Gas 24-hour gas leak hotline at 1-800-582-7060.
    • 2. Stay away from the area until declared safe by South Jersey Gas and/or fire officials.

Water

  • The public water is provided through the City of Ventnor
  • The 24-hour Customer Care number is 609-823-7935.

Sewer

  • Contact the Public Works Department at 609-823-7935 during regular office hours or contact police dispatch after hours at 609-822-2101. We will respond and determine responsibility and advise or correct the problem. Please be aware that the homeowner is responsible from the house to the curbside lateral and the City is responsible from the curbside lateral and roadway.
