Special Law Enforcement Officer Class I 

The Ventnor City Police Department is hiring for the position of Special Law Enforcement Officer Class I for the upcoming 2022 summer season. This position is seasonal employment and requires successful completion of a two-week training course, if applicant does not already possess a valid New Jersey State Police Training Commission Special Law Enforcement Officer Class I certification.

Class I Officers are empowered to issue summons for motor vehicle violations, city ordinance violations, petty disorderly persons violations and disorderly persons violations. These officers receive two weeks of formal training, 80 hours, at a Certified New Jersey Police Academy that includes classes on criminal law, report writing, motor vehicle law, use of force, responsibility to the community, CPR and first aid, handcuffing, baton, and self-defense techniques. These officers do not carry a firearm. They receive New Jersey State PTC certification as a Class One Special Law Enforcement Officer. 

APPLICANTS MUST BE: 

• At least 18 years of age 

• A U.S. citizen with a valid drivers license

• High school graduate or possess a G.E.D.

• Of sound moral character

• Able to distinguish colors accurately

• Normal hearing

• Able to pass a thorough background investigation

• Able to pass a comprehensive psychological and medical examination, and drug test

Atlantic County Residents Preferred

*Atlantic County residents will be considered for employment after all Ventnor residents on the existing Department of Personnel eligibility roster have been considered*
