Beach Patrol

The Ventnor City Beach Patrol is authorized to provide a safe oceanfront location on the beach of Ventnor. The V.C.B.P. is charged with enforcing the laws according to the ordinances set by the City.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Ventnor City Beach Patrol is to establish and maintain high standards for open water (beach) lifeguards, to educate the public, and to promote actions to result in the saving of human life in and around the aquatic environment.

History

The Beach Patrol of Ventnor originated in 1903 to protect people that decided to bath in the Atlantic Ocean while enjoying the beach in Ventnor. The beaches are equipped with a lifeguard stand for observation and a boat to be used to save people in distress. The beaches have three and four lifeguards assigned to them. In the event of an ocean rescue, two guards are to row the boat and at least one is to be the rescue swimmer. The lifeguards have been determined to be proficient both in the rowing and swimming demands required. Originally, there were 9 protected beaches, later enhanced by adding two additional totaling 11 protected beaches in the 1970’s. The Ventnor City Beach Patrol has always provided the best care in attending to the public while enjoying the sun and surf of Ventnor.
