What are the hours of the beach?

People are allowed on the beach from dawn until dusk.  The beach patrol has guarded beaches from 10:00am-6:00pm every day from Memorial Day through Labor Day.  The beaches that are open may vary.

Where can I swim at the beach?

The Ventnor City Beach Patrol has guarded beaches at the following streets from 10:00am-6:00pm beginning Memorial Day through Labor Day. Some beaches may be closed at the beginning and end of the season, daily information can be found at VCBP Headquarters, (609) 823-7948. As per Ventnor Beach ordinance 72-6,  bathers must follow the directions of the lifeguards in regards to where, when and how deep they may swim.

Where can I buy beach badges and how much are they?

The City of Ventnor requires Beach Badges for the Beach from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Badges can be purchased at Ventnor City Hall, the Ventnor Fishing Pier, or on the Beach by any Beach Badge Inspector. Badges can be purchased prior to Memorial Day for $7.00 for the season, and $3.50 for Seasonal Senior Citizens badges. After Memorial Day, badges are available at a rate of $15.00 for the Season. Weekly badges are available for $10. Cash and credit cards are accepted.  You must have a beach badge to visit the beach.

Am I allowed to surf or kayak in Ventnor?

You may surf and kayak at designated beaches within Ventnor.  Lifejackets must be worn on the kayak.  No bathing is permitted at these streets.

 Surfing beaches:

  • Cambridge Ave (North of the Ventnor Pier)
  • Avolyn Ave
  • Derby Ave (Stand Up Paddleboards only)

Kayaking beaches:

  • Between Suffolk Ave and Surrey Ave
  • Portland Ave
  • Newark Ave
Can I barbeque on the beach?

BBQs are permitted on the beach every weekend.  Propane barbeques only, no charcoal or open flames are allowed.

Where are the public bathrooms on the beach?

Public bathrooms are located:

  • Suffolk Ave, behind the tennis courts
  • New Haven Ave, attached to the Ventnor Community Center and Library
  • Cambridge Ave, on the pier
Where is there handicapped access onto the beach?

Handicap ramps are located at the following streets.  If other special assistance is required, the Ventnor City Beach Patrol offers special assistance chairs for additional access to the beach. Please contact the lifeguards to assist you or call Headquarters at (609) 823-7948.

What is the junior lifeguard program?

The junior lifeguard program runs for one week, Monday through Friday the first full week after the 4th of July each summer. Children ages 7-13 are invited to come learn about beach and ocean safety, lifeguarding skills and compete in competitions.  The fee is $10.00 for the week.

Can I fish off the beach?

Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, surf fishing off the beach is permitted between dawn and 10:00am, and between 6:00pm and sunset.  Fishing is permitted during the day on the fishing pier for a small fee. 

Are there rip currents today?

Rip currents come and go on a daily basis.  Ask your lifeguards before going into the water on the condition of the ocean.  More information about riptides can be found (Include attachments on riptide)
