Residents Urged to Check Water Lines

To both our full time and part-time residents of Ventnor City,

Due to the recent extreme cold and today’s shift toward milder temperatures, we urge you to check your property immediately for signs of water line freeze-ups or to have someone check them for you.

While pipes often freeze during sub-zero stretches, leaks typically reveal themselves as the ice thaws. Even if you properly winterized, the recent prolonged deep freeze may have impacted unconditioned spaces like crawl spaces, garages, or exterior walls.

Immediate Actions to Take:

Inspect Vulnerable Areas: Check for pooled water or damp spots in basements, crawl spaces, and under sinks.

Monitor Water Pressure: If you visit your home and find no water or low pressure, a pipe may still be frozen or already burst.

Locate Your Shut-Off: Ensure you or your caretaker knows exactly where the main water shut off valve is located to stop flooding instantly if a leak is found.

Maintain Heat: Ensure thermostats are set to at least 55°F to prevent further issues as temperatures fluctuate.

If you suspect a leak, contact a licensed plumber immediately to prevent extensive property damage. For concerns regarding your service line at the curb, you may contact Ventnor City Public Works.

Stay vigilant to protect your home and our community's infrastructure.
