Streetscape Improvement Project Coming to Dorset Avenue in Ventnor Heights

The Ventnor City Administration of Mayor Tim Kriebel, Commissioner Lance Landgraf, and Commissioner Maria Mento is proud to announce a proposed large-scale streetscape improvement project for the Ventnor Heights commercial district along Dorset Avenue, from the base of the Dorset Avenue Bridge to Monmouth Avenue, and from Calvert Avenue to Balfour Avenue.

This improvement will be funded through a $960,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation under Governor Phil Murphy’s Commitment to Community Initiative. This was a competitive grant process, and the funding will support comprehensive streetscape improvements along the Dorset Avenue corridor.

This corridor—and the Dorset Avenue Bridge itself—serves as a key gateway and a true “Welcome to Ventnor” for residents and visitors alike. These improvements will enhance safety, accessibility, and aesthetics, while supporting local businesses and strengthening the overall character of the neighborhood.

The project includes new street lighting, ADA-compliant sidewalks, landscaping and trees, benches and bike racks, traffic markings, and other enhancements designed to create a more walkable and welcoming streetscape.

We would like to sincerely thank Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson and Atlantic County for their partnership and cooperation on this shared roadway, as well as their continued support of future bridge aesthetic renovations. This type of intergovernmental collaboration allows us to deliver meaningful, visible improvements for our community.

Together, we’re building momentum, investing in our neighborhoods, and creating gateways Ventnor can be proud of.

Budgeted Project Elements:

  • Site clearance and project setup
  • Installation of streetlights and associated lighting utilities
  • ADA-compliant warning surfaces
  • New sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and driveway aprons
  • Installation of benches and bicycle racks
  • Tree grates and decking
  • Tree plantings, perennials, ornamental grasses, and other landscaping
  • Traffic markings, symbols, bumper stops, and flexible bollards
