Ventnor City is closely monitoring Hurricane Erin and its potential impacts along our coastline this week. While skies may remain mostly sunny with comfortable temperatures in the 70s to low 80s, ocean conditions will be very dangerous.
Please be aware of the following:
• Dangerous rip currents: Expected Monday through Saturday, with the strongest conditions Tuesday through Friday.
• Small Craft Advisory: In effect Monday through Friday.
• Ocean conditions for small boats: Wave heights 5–8 feet Monday–Tuesday and Saturday; 9–12 feet Wednesday–Friday. Boating will be extremely hazardous midweek.
• Back bay waters: Choppy, with wave heights of 2–3 feet.
• Minor coastal flooding: Possible during one or both high tides Thursday through Saturday.
Although the ocean water remains warm in the low to mid-70s and the weather will be pleasant, the surf will be unsafe for swimmers and boaters. With the tourist season still active, we urge all residents and visitors to use extra caution near the water.
Ventnor City will continue to share updates as conditions develop. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to monitor both local and national weather forecasts throughout the week.
