The Department of Community Recreation and Education offers educational and recreational programs for Ventnor City’s youth, adult and active adults. The goals and responsibilities include:

  • To plan, promote, organize, and administer a comprehensive recreational and educational program for the Ventnor City community;
  • To evaluate and adapt programs to develop immediate and long range plans to meet the needs of the Ventnor City community;
  • To promote and maintain community activities;
  • To schedule and maintain City recreational facilities;
  • To provide community educational programs for children and adults.

SUMMER SCORE REGISTRATION
6/18/2008 - The Ventnor School Summer SCORE (Student Care in Organized Recreation and Education) Program will begin on Monday, June 30 and run through Friday, August 1. Daily hours are 9-1; 9-11 is the academic enrichment component and 11-1 is our recreation component. A morning snack, lunch and bus transportation are provided. Registration forms are available at the VECC; City Hall and the Recreation Dept office. The SCORE program is open to Ventnor residents and students at the St. James/Holy Family School in 4th to 8th grades. SCORE is a partnership between the Ventnor City Recreation Department and the Ventnor Educational Community Complex. Be sure to join us for Family Night at the Ventnor City Library and Cultural Arts Center on Thursday, July 17. For more information, please call 823-7950. This program was funded its entirety with federal funds under Title IV, Part B, 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 awarded through a competitive process to the Ventnor Educational Community Complex and the Ventnor City Recreation Department by the New Jersey Department of Education.

SCORE EN EL VERANO
6/10/2008 - El programa SCORE (Cuidado de Estudiante en Recreación Organizada y Educación) de la Ciudad de Ventnor comenzará el Lunes, 30 de Junio y correrá hasta el Viernes, 1 de Agosto. Las horas diarias son 9am -1pm; entre las 9-11 sera el componente de enriquecimiento académico y de las y entre las 11-1 sera nuestro componente de recreación. Bocadillos en la mañana, almuerzo y transportación sera proporcionado. Las formas de registración están disponibles en VECC; City Hall y la Oficina del Departamento de Recreación. El programa SCORE esta en cooperación con el Departamento de Recreación de la Ciudad Ventnor y con VECC. 37TH ANNUAL VENTNOR MILE
6/6/2008 - The 37th Annual Ventnor Mile will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2008. Signups at 6:00 p.m. Race begins at 7:00 p.m. – Newport Avenue and the Boardwalk. Fee $10 prior to June 28; $15 after. Family Fee: Parent $8; child $5. Registration forms available at Ventnor City Hall, 6201 Atlantic and the Recreation Department office at 311 Surrey Avenue. Guarded beaches open for Memorial Day Weekend
5/20/2008 - For the Memorial Day Weekend there will be four beaches open with lifeguards on duty. They are: Suffolk Avenue, Dorset Avenue, New Haven Avenue, Lafayette Avenue. Lifeguards are on duty 10-6pm daily. Beach Badges ARE REQUIRED. Please obey all rules.

VENTNOR CITY REC DEPT SUMMER CAMP 2008
5/14/2008 - The Ventnor City Recreation Department will once again be holding Summer Camp in both Sports and Arts & Crafts. Camp will run from June 30 through August 8 from 9am-1pm each day. Camp activities are scheduled for the Ventnor Educational Community Complex as well as various field trips and days at the beach. Suggested ages 6 years old and up. Sports camp is $400 for 6 weeks; $275 for 3 weeks; or $150 per week. Daily fee is $35.00. Arts and Crafts camp is $375 for 6 weeks; $250 for 3 weeks and $135 for one week. Early Bird Discount available for registrations received prior to June 16. Registration forms now available at City Hall and to be mailed upon request. Specialty camps: Sharpshooters Basketball Camp: June 23-27, 9-1, $125; Viking Soccer Camp Aug 11-15, 9-12, $99 before July 1; $125 after. Hoop Mountain Girls Basketball Camp: Aug 18-22; 9-2 pm, $125-Girls only 9-16 years. UK Elite Soccer Camp, Aug. 25-29 9-12, Ages 5-14, $140. ADULT ESL OFFERED AT VECC CLASES DE INGLES COMO SEGUNDA IDOMA PARA ADULTOS
3/17/2008 - The Ventnor School District will be offering adult ESL classes beginning March 31, 2008. Classes will take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. in Room 327 at the Ventnor Middle School. There is no cost for Ventnor residents. ADULT EDUCATION-WINTER & SPRING, 2008
1/25/2008 - The Winter and Spring, 2008 Adult Education classes sponsored by Ventnor Recreation will be starting the week of February 18, 2008. Watch the mail for your flyer, or stop by City Hall or the Recreation Department office to receive a copy. Perennial favorites of Beginning and Intermediate Computer Instruction, Ballroom and Latin Steps Dancing, Line Dancing, Yoga, Reiki, Conversational Spanish, Mitt Fit Boxing, Piano and Guitar all return. New selections, which include Self Defense, Martial Arts, Conversational Italian, Mah Jongg, and Sign Language, make their debut. Get a new look for Spring with our skin care and make up Make Over! Have some fun, get some exercise and beat the winter blues by signing up. All classes held at the Ventnor Educational Community Complex, 400 N. Lafayette Avenue, Ventnor. SCORE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
12/28/2007 - S.C.O.R.E. (Student Care in Organized Recreation and Education) after school program continues to accept enrollment. Program available to 4th through 8th grade students at the VECC, Ventnor residents and students registered at St. James School. SCORE runs from 3-6 p.m. during school year. 3-4 p.m. is homework and study hour. Students who need extra assistance will also be scheduled for supplemental study and tutoring one or two days pers week from 4:15 TO 5:00. Otherwise, from 4-6 p.m. students participate in many different recreational and arts activities including gym jam, gymnastics, karate and martial arts including boxing, flag football, baseball, soccer, golf, dance, art, ceramics, cooking, movie club, guitar and drums. New this year: tennis, piano, sewing and design. Enrichment activities include tutoring, hands on science experiments, creative writing, bullying prevention, anti-alcohol, anti-drugs and anti-tobacco education along with other character education opportunities. CARDIO DANCE CLASS
12/28/2007 - The Ventnor Recreation Department is sponsoring an Adult Cardio Line Dance class. Class is held Wednesday evening at the Ventnor Educational Community Complex from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Fee is $85 for 10 weeks. Also, pay by the class - $10 per class. Classes are ongoing and run almost every Wednesday that the VECC school facility is open. Additional info, please call: 823-7950.
