The Groin Project
The Ventnor Groin is to be located at Martindale Avenue and will extend from the seawall behind the boardwalk into the ocean for a total length of 573 feet. The original design was modified by the State of New Jersey to minimize potential down drift effects that the structure could have on neighboring beaches while helping to retain sand on Ventnor’s beaches. The revision reduced the overall size of the groin. This revised project has been deemed consistent with the State of New Jersey’s Coastal Zone Management Rules (N.J.A.C 7:7E -1 et seq.) and the New Jersey Shore Protection Master Plan. The project was carefully evaluated by the Stevens Institute of Technology and has received the requisite permits from the NJDEP Land Use Regulation Program and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It is anticipated that construction of the groin will commence after the current summer season.
