Prepayment of Property Taxes - Tax Office Opening Saturday, December 30

Yesterday, December 27, 2017, Governor Christie issued Executive Order No. 237 regarding prepayment of 2018 property taxes in response to the enactment of the federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

N.J.S.A. 54:4-66(e) and N.J.S.A. 54:4-66.1(f) state that taxes may be received and credited as payments at any time, even prior to the statutory due dates. Effective immediately, municipalities must accept payments for 2018 property taxes in calendar year 2017. Municipalities must credit those payments as received in 2017 if the payment is postmarked on or before December 31, 2017, or as required by law.

The City of Ventnor tax office is not permitted to advise you on paying your 2018 property taxes or a portion of your taxes in the 2017 year.  Taxpayers should know the IRS could decide that pre-payments made before the first of the year will not reduce their tax liability, on 2017 taxes, payable to the IRS on or before April 15, 2018.

The Ventnor City Tax Office will be open on Saturday, December 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
